Tekoa High School is the only high school in the State of Washington to be nominated and named as a 2010 Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education this year.  Only four schools in the state received the honor and the others are elementary schools. Nationwide, only 304 schools are receiving the award this year.  The award is based on students who achieve at high levels and those who have made significant progress in achievement over time.  Tekoa High was nominated by the state and Mr. Wayne Roellich, high school principal, and the high school staff then completed an extensive application which included academic data, attendance, graduation rates and a detailed written section about the school and the community. This application was reviewed by a national selection committee prior to the announcement this fall by Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan.
